This 200kg Snatch Is Our Favorite Weightlifting Troll

This video is more than a few years old, but it’s only gotten better with age: A Chinese superheavyweight lifter pumps up the crowd, takes the stage for a snatch attempt, and absolutely sticks the weight in a manner we’ve never seen before.

A little context: It appears the lifter was actually sent up to stall for time and give his teammate following the lift a little more rest. With the sound and movement he put into it, we’re a little sad none of the judges gave him a token white light for effort.

Is it an “appropriate” moment in weightlifting? Debatable. But if you’re going to stall, you might as well do it in style. The only thing that would have made it better is somehow sneaking a PVC pipe on stage to execute the maneuver. Now THAT would have taken serious skill, and maybe a little help from David Blaine.

If you clicked on this article hoping to actually see a 200 kilo snatch, we won’t leave you disappointed. Check out the below video from none other than Dmitry Klokov, who PAUSE SNATCHED 200 kilos in the training hall at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships in Houston.

Klokov chronicled that epic lift — and indeed, the highlights of his entire trip — in the video embedded below. It’s a long watch, but there are some great highlights and cool examples of the sportsmanship and friendships that develop between lifters at the international level. Klokov is officially retired from weightlifting competition, but as a now-elder statesman of the sport, his celebrity and influence still carries far.

Basically, when Klokov walks into the room, people tend to turn their heads.
