Report: 94kg Weightlifter Tomasz Zielinski Tests Positive for Doping, Is Out of Rio

The Polish edition of Business Insider is reporting that weightlifter Tomasz Zielinski has tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone and has been removed from Olympic competition. Zielinski is the 2016 European Champion and the younger brother of 2012 London Gold Medalist (85kg) Adrian Zielinski. Both Zielinski brothers were originally slated to compete in the 94kg category in Rio.

The positive test was carried out in Rio, reports Business Insider, and the result confirmed the presence of nandrolone with a followup examination of Zielinski’s “B” sample. Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid, and its use is prohibited in international weightlifting competition.

The younger Zielinski was entered into the competition with a 403kg entry total, the third highest listed in the 94 kilogram class (behind only his older brother and Sohrab Moradi of Iran).

A video of Zielinski’s gold medal performance from the 2016 European Weightlifting Championships is embedded below.
