The IWF and Georgian Weightlifting Federation have unveiled their new logo for the 2016 Junior World Championships. (Well, technically the Georgian Federation launched it, and the IWF approved it.) We gotta say, it’s actually pretty cool:
Huge LIKE from us! Tbilisi launches logo of 2016 IWF Junior Worlds! Do you like it as much as we do?http://www.iwf.net/2016/04/01/tbilisi-launches-logo-of-2016-iwf-junior-worlds/

Besides looking slightly mermaid/merman-esque, the logo seems like a step up from what’s been used for previous IWF events.
The 2016 IWF Junior World Championships take place between June 23rd and July 2nd in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital.
Weightlifting is a pretty big deal in Georgia, which has produced Olympic gold medalists Kakhi Kakhiashvili (who also lifted for Greece as Akakios Kakiasvilis) and Giorgi Asanidze. Reigning superheavyweight World Champion Lasha Talakhadze is also from Georgia and was awarded the Houston gold medal after Aleksey Lovchev’s positive doping test.
Talakhadze is only 22 years old — too old to compete as a Junior, but young enough to be a multi-time threat on the Olympic stage — and is almost certainly a favorite to contend for superheavyweight gold in Brazil.
While the Junior World Championships might not get a ton of attention in the run-up to Rio, it’s still one of the more important international weightlifting events left in 2016. And while countries haven’t finalized their start lists for the 2016 Olympics just yet, there’s a good chance we’ll see a few faces from Tbilisi lifting in Rio as well.
What do you think of the Tbilisi Junior World Championships logo? Too gimmicky, or actually well designed? Let us know in the comments below.
